Rob RutterfordResiding in Halesworth, Rob Rutterford has worked in Suffolk for the last twenty two years teaching and producing stoneware ceramics. Concentrating mainly on garden pieces which comprise of functional and abstract forms, over time they weather into the outdoor environment.
'Inspiration grows from gardents, their plants and structures, the coast nearby and historical and ethnical reference. I like to work directly into the clay having surrounded myself with lots of reference, photographic media, found objects, and a few sketches. There's something about the process of making in itself, call it therapy or resolving ideas through doing. Once complete it is single fired to achieve its toasted appearance. I am always pleased to see my work in place 'at home' in their environment and then want to make more. No one piece is ever the same and they take on their own personality and character, like children growing up'.
